Balance – Georgia Beers

Balance - Georgia BeersNorah Ellison wakes up in the morning a couple of times a month and finds she has written a note to herself in her sleep. The note has a name and a place. All she knows is that she needs to help them, and as quickly as possible

This is the first in a series and was first published in the collection ‘Outsiders’

A clear departure from Ms Beers’ well known and award winning romances this is a short story full of suspense, a dose of a crime/detective and a touch of the paranormal. The paranormal element is actually only how Norah gets her cases, the rest is a tale of finding and helping the woman named on her notepad.

In this, the first of a new series, we get a back-history of how this started, a glimpse of some of her defining cases and how she has built her support team. The story itself is an interesting and thoughtful take about how stalking can ruin women’s lives, and a recognition that there is little that can be done legally to stop it until it is too late.

Georgia Beers BioAs always Ms Beers’ characters are beautifully written and Norah and her girlfriend Hayley soon become clearly defined and real persona, despite the brevity of the story. The phycology of the victim, the women trying to help them and even the criminals is well crafted and dominates the tale.

Short and sweet, well worth the read, looking forwards to the next in the series.
