Freedom To Love – Ronica Black

Freedom To Love – Ronica BlackThere is only one thing Brynn Williams has in common with Kat Vander and that is that Sergeant Vander sent Williams to prison.

Four years on and Brynn is released having served her time, she walks out looking for a fresh start and has every intension of staying out of trouble. Unfortunately her sister has other ideas and arrives in a stolen car and high as a kite.

Kat Vander and her partner are just about to run into trouble. Without help or support both look doomed, but help comes in the shape of the Williams sisters.

With the sisters hiding from the law can Sergeant Vander recover from her ordeal to help them out of theirs??

This is a great book. The police drama keeps you enthralled throughout but what I found captivating was the growing affection between the two main characters. Although they are both very different women, you find yourself holding your breath, hoping that they will find a way to be together.

Unexpected by Jenny Frame

Unexpected - Jenny FrameDale McGuire is a player who enjoys her life just as it is. Different women, fast cars and no responsibility except for the business she owns and the few friends she loves. Life couldn’t be better.

Rebecca Harper, a stranger to Dale and someone who is hurt and struggling with life is about to have her world rocked to the core.
Both women have nothing in common, or do they. The presence of Rebecca’s ten- year- old son throws Dale into a spin, especially when he claims she is his other mother.

I found this book fascinating, especially how the storyline was handled. I thought it was well written, dealing with a difficult issue. The two main characters were likeable as was the ten-year-old Jake.

I really enjoyed this book and found it different to the usual romance novels. I can certainly recommend it.

Sidebar – Carsen Taite

Sidebar by Carsen TaiteAttorney West Fallon has promised a federal judge that she will take a year away from her career to clerk for him, she may even wear a suit. However when he is taken ill the plans change and she is forced to clerk for a different judge, something she hadn’t bargained on and certainly isn’t looking forward to.

Judge Camille Avery, newly appointed to the federal court is looking forward to her new role, however a complex murder case, unruly attorneys, broken rules and her attraction to West Fallon all add up to make her life miserable.

As the two women work together they offer each other something they crave. As their attraction grows so does their fear and insecurities. Is it possible to let go of the past for the sake of a chance of happiness?

I really enjoyed the book, it keeps you interested from start to finish. There are so many different threads to keeps you on your toes. I found myself rooting for West all the way through, hoping that she would eventually find the happiness she deserved.

Countdown – Julie Cannon

Countdown – Julie CannonAndrea Finley is a strong, confident single minded woman who has her life and career planned out. Having reached the position of flight director at NASA, she has the responsibility for the next space flight to the moon and the safety of the seven astronauts.

Not everything runs as smooth with the mission as Andrea would like and unfortunately has to request help from outside NASA.

Kenner Hutchings, a brilliant twenty-something wiz kid from MIT gets the call to come to the rescue. Her confidence and swagger unnerves the flight director from the very start and so begins a love hate relationship that keeps them both on their toes and makes each re-evaluate certain decision they have made.

Julie Cannon biogCountdown is a brilliant story that keeps you hooked. The two main characters are so well written that you really care about them. The sexual tension between Andrea and Kenner is so intense you can literally feel it vibrate from the pages.

My only complaint is I would have liked it to go on and on. At the every least I would like to beg Ms Cannon for a sequel.

Prescription for love – Radclyffe

Prescription for love – RadclyffeWe were first introduced to Flannery Rivers in Against Doctors Orders. Flannery and her sister Harper work at the Argyle Community Hospital and as members of the Rivers family continue to work tirelessly for the people they have known all their lives.

Flannery is happy for her sister Harper, watching from the sidelines as wedding plans are made for Harper and her partner Presley. Flannery enjoys the freedom and opportunities that appear, especially the chance to have different playmates when the mood takes her.

RadclyffeAbigail Remy is the new woman in town having accepted the position of ER chief at the hospital. Along with her son Blake, Abigail is looking for a quiet life and a new start. Flannery is drawn to the challenge especially as Abigail refuses to swoon to Flannerys charm.

The story is a wonderful mix of community spirit and character building. A coming of age, growing older and wiser. Acknowledging that not everything is black and white and happiness comes in all different packages.

Riding Passion – D Jackson Leigh

Riding PassionsI usually struggle to read short stories, I find it difficult to learn enough about the characters to care what happens to them. But the moment I started reading Riding Passion my opinion of how a short story can truly touch the reader changed.

I’ve read the majority of D Jackson Leigh’s work – with the exception of Dragon Horse War: The Calling – so it was a lovely surprise to read short stories that shone new light on characters I was already familiar with. Having now read a short story introducing me to Jael and Alyssa , Dragon Horse War: The Calling is firmly on my list of books to read

The ten short stories featured are rich in character and hot in content. Some deal with the momentous occasion of the first kiss or touch that alters the fabric of our being and switches on a light we didn’t realize was dimmed. Others are so raunchy that you may need a cold shower to deal with the side affects.

Riding passion is a brilliant compilation of stories that touch the heart, soul and in some cases other places too.

D Jackson Leigh BiogMy only complaint – or rather request – is that I would really like to read more of Haze and Luna’s story and if I had a bucket list for novels I could ask an author to write, Skin Walkers would be at the top of the list.

Memoir in the Making – Adrian J. Smith

Memoir in the MakingAinsley Jacobs is a twenty-year-old student with a bright future and the confidence to go after the things she wants. Living away from her family she has her best friend Adam by her side for support, guidance and all-important drinking buddy.

Meredith Frenz is a well-respected professor who teaches the Literary Memoir class. She is professional, dedicated and committed to her job and her students. As the new semester begins, however, so does a chain of events that rock her well-organised life and make her question her sanity.

Is it possible that there comes a time when age is just a number? When social pressure no longer brings into question the reason why two souls are drawn to each other? Is love worth risking everything for? This story makes the reader contemplate these questions and more. It’s impossible not to feel Ainsley and Meredith’s pain and anxiety, their passion and love, eventually hoping that they can make it through the turbulent maze.Adrian J. Smith Bio

On the surface “Memoir in the Making” would seem to be the typical “Cougar” love story between a young student and the older professor. But this is no typical romance. The characters are beautifully crafted and the depth of emotion bleeds from the page. Ms Smith writes with passion and angst in equal measure. The reader can’t help but be swept up in the growing sexual tension and the frustration that reverberates through every chapter.

Deception By Design – Tara Wentz

Deception by DesignA story filled with suspense and enough twists and turns to cause whiplash.

Kellen Reynolds lives for the adrenalin rush that can only come from burning up the pavement at the local amateur racetrack, during the day she works as a graphic/software designer and her best friend is also her dog Chigger.

Photographer Joshlyn Davis tries to keep her life uncomplicated with few friends or acquaintances and a treasure trove full of secrets her mission in life is to go unnoticed. She has worked hard to get her life just as she wants and needs it but then life isn’t always that accommodating.

The two women meet and have an instant attraction. Ms Wentz paints a gradual picture as Kellen and Joshlyn fight against it. Each holding secrets close but inevitably love is too powerful an emotion to run from. They both choose to take small steps hoping that fear will not raise its ugly head. But then love is never that simple.

Tara Wentz bioWe are thrown into turmoil as the story heats up. With enemies crawling out of the pages and both women fighting for the truth, it’s difficult to know who has the most to hide and in the end who is the most in danger. With twists and turns, you are left screaming “whatever next”.

Deception By Design is a well written and edited story. A thoroughly enjoyable read that keeps you on the edge of your seat, especially when Kellen is behind the wheel.

The Rainey Bell Thrillers – R.E.Bradshaw

Rainey DaysWhen I picked up the first book in this series Rainey Days I had absolutely no idea that I would be transported into the world of an exceptional storyteller.

Rainey Days introduces us to the aloof FBI agent Rainey Blue Bell. On medical leave after a life-changing encounter with a serial killer the previous year, we step into her world as she continues her fight to forget the nightmares and move on with her life. Her struggle to cope often has her looking for answers at the bottom of a tequila bottle.

Rainey NightsCurrently running her deceased fathers bail bond business, a request from an old friend may put her back in the firing line.

We also get our first glimpse of the charming Katie Meyers who is unknowingly placed in danger, a pawn in a game where only those with the strongest will to survive have a chance.

The two women find themselves enthralled, each captivated by the other and as the story unfolds we join them in their spellbinding attraction.Rainey Season

With fast-paced action scenes and a sophisticated plot that grips the reader Ms Bradshaw has also fully fleshed out her heroes and villains. The series perfectly balances a gentle  love story with the ever-present danger that shrouds Rainey.

RE Bradshaw bioEach novel has its own menace, its own evil lurking on the pages and as the series develops we learn more about the monsters Rainey Bell had to deal with whilsColde & Raineyt working with the BAU. We also see the supporting cast grow and evolve as we learn more about them.

The Rainey Bell Thrillers capture the imagination of the reader with such ferocity that resistance to reading the complete series to date is futile. As each book comes to an end Ms Bradshaw leaves us with the need to reach for the next instalment.

Cherokee Falls Series – D. Jackson Leigh

BarebackI think as a reviewer there is a difficult balance between always moving forward with new talent, new titles and current releases, but also acknowledging that previous novels may need a visit every now and then. It is easy to assume readers new to this genre must be aware of these great books, these wonderful writers, but then – maybe not.

With that in mind I thought I would review a series of books that always put a smile on my face. D. Jackson Leigh wrote the first in the Cherokee Falls series back in 2008, its title Bareback, followed by Long Shot and later Every Second Counts.

Long ShotThe novels each have there own stories to tell but the theme running throughout is that of long term friendship and the beautiful relationship between a horse and rider. Each book can stand alone on its own merit, however with muti dimensional characters you really can’t wait for the next instalment.

Bareback introduces us to best friends Skyler Reese and Tory Greyson. The two women have been friends since childhood and know each other better than anyone else, good and bad. Skyler is the arrogant, confident player whilst Tory has always been the quiet, strong, loyal friend. That loyalty is put to the test when both women are drawn to newcomer Jessica Black.

Every Second CountsLong Shot continues the story of friendship and the ups and downs of making difficult choices; sometimes the hardest decision is knowing when to gamble and allowing      the heart what it truly desires

Later in the series Every Second Counts also gives us the opportunity to meet the third member of this ‘friends forever’ group Marc Ryder, who’s confidence with women makes Skyler seem rather tame.

The series is beautifully written and gives the reader a front row seat whilst we watch these D Jackson Leigh Biogthree strong, resilient and hard headed women grow, mature and finally acknowledge the things they need in their lives to make them complete.

Throw into the mix wonderfully descriptive settings, an insight into the life at an equestrian centre, oh and lets not forget the hot sex and I do believe that Ms Jackson Leigh has a winning formula.Three stories, three friends and a series that will warm your heart and soul.
